A gift in your Will to Tearfund can change lives forever!

A message from Tearfund’s CEO

Dear friends,

“How can I express my faith in a powerful way?”

It’s a question that many of us ask. For me, leading Tearfund’s work with our local Christian partners is a practical expression of my faith. As someone who lived in Africa for 15 years earlier in my life, and now has the privilege of visiting Tearfund’s partners there and elsewhere, it is always so powerful to see the difference that this work makes in helping communities to overcome extreme poverty.

Zambia

During a visit to Zambia, a widow named Misozi shared with me how once she faced the threat of months without adequate food, and the devastating choice of sending her children to school hungry – or not at all. Tearfund’s local partner has worked with Mizosi’s community, leading to huge improvements in health, greater awareness of human rights issues and restored relationships. Life for Misozi’s family looks much brighter.

I invite you to participate in this kind of transformative work by supporting Tearfund through a gift in your Will.

As you consider this invitation, I encourage you to seek qualified legal advice to ensure that you first achieve all that you desire through your Will for your family and loved ones.

The difference your gift can make

For siblings Radiet and Genet, attending pre-school was once only a dream. There was no pre- school nearby, and attending one would have meant a long walk navigating busy roads.

Pre-school is so important for children, giving them opportunities to build confidence and prepare for future learning. So the community was overjoyed when Tearfund’s partner Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church Development Commission opened a pre-school in the village.

Attending pre-school has had an enormous impact. It’s given the siblings the confidence to think about their future.

Genet, who’s now 12, says: “When I grow up I want to be a pilot.” Radiet, 7, has ranked highly in all of her classes thanks to the foundational pre- school education she received. She wants to become a doctor and help treat people in her community.

Tearfund’s partnerships help make it possible for families to overcome poverty and flourish. They are expressions of Tearfund’s commitment to “follow Jesus, going where the need is greatest.”

Without your generosity, this vital work would not be possible.

It ‘just makes sense’!

We have been Tearfund supporters since the 1980s. Our children have grown up knowing that our faith in Jesus has been fundamentally lived out through our commitment to the gospel truths of grace, justice and mercy.

So it is no surprise to them as adults to know that whilst we will always ensure they will be well taken care of when we are called home, our Wills also reflect our life-long commitment to God’s kingdom values.

That’s why our gift to Tearfund in our Wills just makes sense.

It is our will that what we leave behind should benefit people struggling against the continuing horror of poverty and disadvantage - people made in God’s image...

Deciding to exercise your Will

There’s a very good reason why the document that details how you want your “worldly goods” dispersed when you die is called a “Will”. You are deciding, exercising your will, about what is to happen to whatever you’ve accumulated during your lifetime; how it will be used, and who will benefit.

That’s why we’ve left a bequest to Tearfund. We’re convinced that Tearfund’s work of justice and compassion is what God expects of his people. What we have is not ours but God’s. It is our will that what we leave behind should benefit people struggling against the continuing horror of poverty and disadvantage - people made in God’s image; people he loves, and asks us to love too. We believe that in doing so, we are lining up our will with God’s.

After all, we pray that God’s will be done on earth, as it is in Heaven.

Planning a gift to change lives forever

For many supporters, including a gift in their Will is the most significant gift they will ever make. It can be a tangible expression of God’s love to communities awaiting restoration and healing.

We understand making or updating your Will is an important decision that requires careful consideration. Depending on your circumstances there are different ways in which to remember Tearfund in your Will.

We encourage you to discuss the intentions of your Will with those close to you, and to seek professional legal advice.
