End of Financial year Appeal

There are growing needs across the communities our partners work in, and we are grateful for every chance to show God’s love around the world together. If you can, a gift to our End of Financial Year Appeal will further support our Christian partners, whose work continues to bring transformation in the midst of conflict, climate shocks, food insecurity and ongoing challenges. Providing vital support for people impacted by conflict and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and Lebanon

Since we launched the Middle East Humanitarian Appeal in February, the situation in the region has intensified. Violence, displacement and economic shocks surged after the ceasefire ended in March, blockades are cutting off avenues for humanitarian assistance, and last week the UN’s emergency aid coordinating body, OCHA, said the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is likely the worst it has been in the 18 months since the war began.

When the ceasefire ended, Safa Hijazeen, Tearfund’s Regional Director for the Middle East, said:

“The renewal of sudden and unexpected airstrikes on Gaza has left us heartbroken. People are facing a catastrophic situation. Israel must lift its blockade of aid to Gaza and ensure that humanitarian aid is allowed to reach the vulnerable, especially women, children, the elderly, and sick. Tearfund partners have been using every opportunity to provide life-saving medical aid for clinics. We urgently appeal to the international community to ensure restraint, and to focus on an immediate and lasting ceasefire.”

Millions of people across Gaza, Lebanon and the wider region remain in urgent need of food, shelter and medical care.

The conflict across the region has devastated lives:

  • More than 46,000 Palestinians have been killed.
  • More than 1.9 million people in Gaza have been forced to flee their homes and are facing a bitter, wet winter without adequate shelter or food.
  • In Lebanon, airstrikes have killed thousands and displaced more than a million people, putting further strain on extremely limited resources.

How Tearfund is responding

In Lebanon, our partner is reaching over 1200 vulnerable young people and adults who are suffering from severe mental health and psychosocial needs due to the prolonged crisis, destruction and displacement. Young people are also being provided with hygiene and dignity kits. This project, which is working through local churches, is vital in building community resilience, reducing distress, and empowering individuals to navigate their challenges.

A portion of the funds raised through this appeal will support conflict affected people from Gaza and the West Bank. Through the Tearfund Family, we are working closely with partners who are positioned to mobilise the next phase of their response as soon as possible. The situation is extremely complex and alongside barriers in delivering aid, Tearfund is adhering to rigorous due diligence to ensure proper management of funds.

Pray with us

  • For an end to the violence and injustice in the Middle East, and for lasting peace.
  • That those working to bring aid, care and support would be strengthened. Pray for the local church to be able to respond and share the light and hope of Jesus.
  • Pray for new and restored avenues for funding, supplies and services to reach those who are in desperate need.
  • Pray for restoration of hope and health for the hundreds of people, and their friends and families, who are being served through the project in Lebanon.

We’ve created a guide to help individuals and groups pray for people affected by crisis in the Middle East. Join us in prayer for a peaceful future, recovery of hope, and healing and flourishing for communities.
