A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Afghanistan on Wednesday 22 June, killing more than 1,000 people and wounding many more, according to a regional official.
Tearfund has long standing relationships with partners in Afghanistan who are assessing the needs of local communities. The locations where the earthquake has affected most are remote, and it will take a few days before our partners are able to make assessments and plans for how best to respond.
Currently Tearfund hasn’t launched a specific appeal for the earthquake.
Our current End of Financial Year Appeal is the best way to enable Tearfund to direct financial support to where the needs are greatest. A strong response to the EFY Appeal will give us the flexibility to respond appropriately after 1 July through funds we have budgeted for humanitarian and emergency response.
We also invite our supporters to pray for our partners and the situation in Afghanistan.
