Our report card is in on the federal government’s recent budget announcement.
✅ This is a historic budget, showing that in times of crisis we as Australians go above and beyond in our generosity.
✅ We welcome the announcement of a special $305m fund over 2 years in the Pacific and Timor-Leste to help respond to COVID-19.
✅ The government has been listening to the thousands of Australians who have been raising their voice to ensure we respond generously to #EndCOVIDForAll.
❌ Yet in this generational moment, when the need is at its highest, we are saddened to see aid decreasing for some of the places facing the greatest challenges.
❌ We are very disappointed by worrying declines in aid funding to sub-Saharan African nations (funding cut by 48%), Afghanistan (funding cut by 35%), Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan
❌ We are also disappointed to see reductions in some global humanitarian partnerships and disability programs.
As followers of Jesus, let’s not grow weary of urging our leaders on for generous and just funding for our world in need.
If you'd like to send a message to our government and raise your voice for our global neighbours facing poverty, you can!
