Prayers for our First Peoples Partners

NAIDOC Week, usually celebrated in the first week of July, grew out of Aboriginal Christian leader William Cooper’s call in the 1930s for the church to pray for the First Peoples of Australia.
This year, due to COVID-19, NAIDOC week has been moved to November and at that time we will be sharing the hopes and prayers that Tearfund’s First Peoples partners have for their communities.
In the meantime, we want to encourage you to continue in prayer for our First Peoples sisters and brothers. During this coming week, drawing inspiration from Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 1:15-19, we invite you to pray with our First Peoples partners.
Ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers.
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. Ephesians 1:15 - 19a
Strong Women Talking
Sono Leone from our partner in Brisbane Strong Women Talking has asked us to pray for the women they are working with. She says:
“Please continue to pray for our women we are working with for God to really love in their lives and see them set free and completely healed. Please pray for God's will in the women's lives and please stand in agreement with our prayers for systems of oppression to be broken in Jesus name.”
Moorditj Keila
Our new partner Moorditj Keila has just started taking enrolments for their Learning to Drive program. We will introduce this project more in the near future but for now pray that they can get the right people in the program. One issue that Moorditj Keila has identified is that many young Aboriginal people in their network have outstanding fines that need to be paid before they can get their license. Please pray that they can work out ways of working with these young people to get these fines paid off.
