Give nowIn Luke 4:16-21, Jesus proclaimed that through him, ‘today’ was God’s new day. It still is. In Jesus, the end of poverty begins with today. Now is the time to reset – and we each have a part to play.
That’s why today we are inviting you to give to Tearfund’s Reset Appeal to help bring access and opportunity to families like Adanech’s.
After fleeing her hometown in Ethiopia due to violence, Adanech (pictured) and her family lost everything they had. Her husband then became ill and as she struggled to make a living, she was forced to send three of her five children to live with her brother.
Restoration began when she joined a community support group run by Tearfund’s local partner. Now able to access vital financial support, Adanech took out a loan to start her own business baking injera (flatbread). Now her children have enough food to eat.
In a very real way, becoming a part of this group turned Adanech’s life around as she found in it a supportive and caring community. These groups play an important role in strengthening communities and building resilience.
Yet today, the COVID-19 pandemic is making it harder for Adanech and others like her to come together safely and continue their journey out of poverty.
Amid the challenges of this pandemic, Tearfund has been helping our partners to support people in heavily impacted communities, by providing food, personal protective equipment, hygiene kits, training, counselling and other much needed support.
