Tearfund’s Christian partners are bringing light and life to some of the hardest places in the world. Places like Pakistan, where Radha (pictured) received life-giving support during her pregnancy and after the birth of her baby girl.

This Christmas, give a gift that prevents women from dying in childbirth. Give a gift that provides babies with the best possible start in life. Share the light and life of Jesus in the hardest places.

How your gift will help

In Pakistan, 186 women die for every 100,000 live births, and the maternal mortality rate is higher in rural areas. Tearfund’s partner the Diocese of Hyderabad trains traditional birth attendants who can help women in remote, rural areas to deliver babies safely.1

The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted childhood immunisation, with 67 million children missing out entirely or partially on routine immunisation between 2019 and 2021. In South Sudan, Tearfund’s partner ACROSS supports health clinics and mobile health outreach services which provide life-saving services including immunisations for children and pregnant mothers and screening for malnutrition.2

Globally, the infant mortality rate has decreased in recent years, but it still stands at around 29 deaths per 1000 live births. In Phongsaly province in Laos, where the infant mortality rate is the highest per province in the country, Tearfund’s partner is supporting pregnant women to access health facilities, antenatal care and education on nutrition.3
