Appeal UpdateWe are grateful and amazed at the outpouring of generosity in response to the flash flooding in Nepal on 26 August. Since then, our local partners have been working tirelessly to bring assistance, comfort and care where it is desperately needed. Our partner Share and Care has been driving up to 13 hours on monsoon affected roads to reach affected communities across Rasuwa and Nuwakot, helping deliver support and supplies for 433 households as well as 76 people in temporary care in a holding centre. Another partner, Shanti Nepal, has focused their immediate response on securing water, sanitation and health facilities for impacted communities.
Phil Lindsay, Tearfund's Effectiveness and Humanitarian Team Leader has been with our partners in Nepal. He shares:
"This disaster has no real precedent for Nepal. People have lost land, houses, and everything. It's terrible to see the way this disaster has split families – the number of children left without families, wives left without husbands who were working. In places where the river bed has been lifted between 4 and 15 metres, there is no way you can rebuild in those locations. After other disasters like the 2015 earthquake, people were supported to return to the livelihoods they had previously. In this case, what people were doing previously may not even be possible, so we need real creativity as we rethink livelihoods and resettle families."

Flash floods and mudslides have swept through communities in central Nepal, causing widespread devastation.
Hundreds of lives have been lost, and the death toll continues to climb while homes, roads and vital infrastructure have been destroyed. Families have watched their homes and possessions wash away with many also desperately searching for loved ones.
Right now, our partners on the ground need your support to reach communities in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
Tearfund supports a number of long-term local partners in Nepal. These partners have faithfully served communities for decades, including through previous disaster situations such as the 2015 earthquakes. These partners know the impacted region and communities very well, and are assessing the situation and developing a response plan to ensure we can support affected communities in the most effective way possible.
We know that impacted communities are already vulnerable to poverty and an event like this can further increase the risks they face. Your support is vital to reach those who need it most.
