Across Australia, everyday Christians are embracing a whole-of-life response to God's call to love your neighbour. Through giving, learning, living, advocating and praying for a more just and compassionate world, lasting change is happening.
Karen Moseley shares how her parents' charitable Wills inspired her to leave a lasting legacy through Tearfund.
By Karen Moseley, South Australia:
In 2024 both my parents passed away. I suddenly found myself thrust into my role as executor of their Wills. It was only at this point that I fully absorbed the nature of their Wills. What became apparent was that my parents' lives of generosity were continuing after their deaths. Almost a quarter of the estate was to be given to charity—including Tearfund. This legacy of generosity had a significant impact on my brothers and I, and has compelled us to re-think our own Wills.
How will my husband and I pass on our values, our priorities, in our Wills? How will our 'wealth' tackle poverty and injustice after we've gone? Participating in Tearfund's Gifts in Wills webinar, and reading through resources they have produced, has empowered us to make wise, long-lasting decisions about our money. My prayer is that, like my parents, the treasures I've been fortunate to accumulate here on earth, when shared with those who most need it, will bring hope and transformation, far and wide and into the future.
May this be the prayer of us all.
