Pramilla in India

“Come! Come inside my home.” A moment in India.

Today I want to share something personal with you. A small clip I filmed during my recent trip to India - a moment that deeply moved me.

We had arrived in a Musahar village where Tearfund’s local partners have been working alongside the community for several years. I came ready to listen, expecting to hear about ongoing needs, about how we could continue to support the community.

I arrived expecting to hear about ongoing needs, to understand how we might continue supporting this village. But as I walked through the laneways, I kept hearing the same warm invitation:

"Come! Come inside my home!"

There was one woman I met, her name was Pramilla.

She smiled shyly, then proudly led me into her home. It was modest, but beautifully cared for. She tapped the wooden bed with real pride. “This is where six of us sleep,” she said, beaming.

Then I realised, she wasn’t just showing me her house. She was showing me what had changed. That house represented so much – it stood for dignity. Stability. Safety. A place of her own.

She doesn’t want to talk about her needs, she wants to show what she’s capable of now!

Before I left, she gently held my hand and said, “Wait! See the food I have made.” She wanted me to see her kitchen, her meal. Her hospitality. Her pride.

It’s a beautiful moment I’ll never forget.

These are the kinds of stories I wish everyone could see – the quiet, powerful transformations that happen when people are supported to rebuild their lives with dignity.

This is how poverty ends – not just through donations…

… but long-term partnerships, helping people realise their God-given potential.

As we approach the end of the financial year, I want to say thank you and invite you to continue supporting this work.

This is the “how” of ending poverty: people working together, joining God’s kingdom at work. Thank you for being part of this movement.
