In the pursuit of lasting community transformation, local leadership is a powerful catalyst. Four years ago, realising a critical gap in local governance, EFICOR facilitated the joining together of village leaders to form a collective platform and so began the Federation. Today it is a well established network of 20 passionate village representatives united in a vision to advocate for the health, dignity and wellbeing of their communities.

What makes the Federation distinctively powerful is its commitment to inclusivity. In a country deeply divided by historical social structures, this group transcends traditional boundaries not only with different castes working together but with gender equity a core principle, both men and women have equal representation.

“Through the Federation, women have got a chance to take leadership roles,” shares a representative, “Now our voices are heard, and we are working equally with men for the welfare of our villages.”

With a diverse range of skills and experiences, they are a formidable force for localised advocacy. In the past year 879 households have benefited from their work, including applications to the government that has ensured the construction of basic infrastructure like roads.

With EFICOR's guidance and training particularly in capacity-building and linkages with government departments, they have gained the confidence and skills to navigate complex government systems and get results for their communities.

Equipped to advocate for the dignity and rights of their villages, these leaders are creating a ripple effect of transformation – one that will safeguard the wellbeing of their communities for generations to come.
