If we don't act now, Africa will account for nearly 60% of all global hunger by 2030.
Addressing hunger today must go beyond a single season of relief. It requires investment in long-term, climate-adaptive solutions.
Now is the time to plant strong roots for a future free from hunger.
Nearly 80% of the world's poor live in regions exposed to extreme heat, flooding and other climate hazards proven to fuel food insecurity.
In rural Zambia, farmers like Aveles are finding it harder to plan what they will grow or much they can expect to harvest. With no safety net, families are being pushed into deeper cycles of poverty and hunger.
You can stand with communities today to build resilient futures free from hunger.
“After my husband died, landowners sold this farm to me and my seven children, because they thought this land wasn't fertile. In the early years of coming here we thought of moving out because crop yields were too low to sustain our family.
But with training in different farming approaches, climate smart agriculture and small livestock production, now I do not have plans of moving out of this area.
I'm a happy farmer who has learnt a lot, such that my family will never go hungry anymore because of the improved yields.”
– Aveles Mwanza, Farmer, rural Zambia
Your gift will directly support Tearfund’s partners as they work alongside their communities to tackle the root causes of poverty, including climate-driven food insecurity, in places including:
Where our partner ROCS is helping thousands of local farmers to introduce resilient seed varieties, and equipping community school students to pioneer innovative solutions to grow food and regenerate the environment.
Where our partner Yasera is helping families start kitchen gardens to grow healthy, nutrient-rich food right at home.
Where, building off a successful project in which they successfully reduced moderate-to-severe household hunger from 59% to 0%, our partner is helping 990 of the most vulnerable families learn sustainable ways to grow food and harvest rain water at home, along with new ways to earn an income.
Where climate shocks are becoming more frequent and severe, our partner is teaching families—including those headed by children—to raise livestock for a sustainable source of income and nutrition.
“They’ll plant fields and eat what they grow… For my people will be as long-lived as trees, my chosen ones will have satisfaction in their work.”
