Since launching the Rubbish Campaign in 2019 alongside our friends at Tearfund UK, we’ve had more than three thousand people in Australia take action – joining tens of thousands of others globally – calling on the multinational companies who drive the production of single use plastics in the world’s poorest places to take responsibility and play their part in the solution.
There are around two billion people living in developing countries without access to proper systems to manage and dispose of waste. These people are left with no option but to burn their rubbish or dump it. Through our 2019 TEAR Gatherings, The Justice Conference and the network of our faithful friends, more and more people have come to understand the link between the health of our environment and our efforts to tackle poverty.
We give thanks to God for the many people who have contributed to this campaign through their time, actions and stories. We pray that even more will add their voices as we continue our work with the global Tearfund family and ramp up our efforts in the lead up to company reporting season later this year.
