Use this poster to transform a long walk to unsafe water into local, reliable and clean water. A Well ($1900) can provide life-giving water for an entire community!
Raise multiples of $25, the amount it takes to provide clean, safe water for one person. Build a bucket tower using printed images or cutouts of buckets, adding one for each $25 raised – watch your impact grow!
There are plenty of creative ways to learn about and fundraise for Tearfund’s Water Relief Appeal. Many of these ideas can simply be accompanied by a gold coin for participation.
Raise money through the sales of icy poles.
Teams race around an oval to fill a large bucket as quickly as possible, carrying one cup of water at a time. This could also be an individual event.
Research how far people (usually women) need to go to collect water in a water-insecure country like Pakistan. Aside from what is a long walk, what are other challenges might they encounter? Have a fun run event with a distance equivalent to (or a portion of) the distance women travel each day to collect water for their families’ needs.
How creative can you get by dressing in blue for a day?
Water is precious! Keeping a tally of the times you wash your hands each day, drink from the drinking fountain, or need to access fresh water. Consider having a class brainstorm to see what you come up with. Put your tally together on a class chart to see just how important water is for each day.
Explore Pansu’s story. Pansu used to walk two kilometres with her children after a long day working in the fields, just to collect water from a pond that wasn’t clean. Her children were often sick from illnesses that could be easily prevented with better access to safe water. Consider what life would be like if a parent/guardian or older sibling had to collect water for your household…by foot. What if you had to join them? Would you still have time to play with your friends? Where is the local creek, river or dam? Is it clean enough to drink from?
